At Emana Medical, we know how frustrating it can be to deal with thinning hair or hair loss. That’s why we’re pleased to offer several treatments to leave you with thicker, fuller hair without surgery or extensive downtime.
PRP hair restoration uses PRP to stimulate stem cells in the inactive hair follicles and promote new hair growth. Once we draw a small sample of blood from your arm, we’ll place it into a centrifuge to separate your red blood cells from your plasma. Then, we’ll inject the platelet rich plasma directly into your scalp at the level of your hair follicles.
You can think of HydraFacial Keravive as a facial for your scalp. It’s a unique treatment that aims to cleanse, stimulate, and nourish your scalp so you can enjoy healthier, fuller hair. The HydraFacial Keravive involves a three-step process that extracts dirt, oil, and impurities from your scalp while simultaneously stimulating your hair follicles. At the end of the treatment, we’ll apply growth factors and proteins to nourish your scalp. We’ll also provide you with a special spray so you can do the same at home.
PRP FOR HAIR RESTORATION
Hair loss can be an embarrassing issue. Male and female pattern hair loss is a genetic problem that can leave you feeling helpless. Options, like prescription drugs, are often partially effective and carry the potential for unwanted side effects. Surgical hair restoration can be expensive and does not treat the underlying medical problems. Now there is an affordable way for you to regain your hair density back without surgery or harmful side effects. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) for hair restoration involves a simple injection of your own platelets into the vascular layer of your scalp.
Platelet Rich Plasma is an autologous high concentration of platelets in a small volume of plasma. It is measured as 1 million platelets per mL, or at least 2 times the native concentration of whole blood. About 50% of blood is made up of plasma; it is relatively clear with yellow tint made up of water (92%), sugar, fat, protein and salt.
PRP for Hair Regrowth: Increases blood supply to the follicle, Increases shaft size (thickness), Triggers and maintains the growth phase, Controls hair growth cycle, and Decreases hair loss.
How PRP Works
Platelets contain healing growth factors. Those growth factors are essential to the healing cascade and are like signal callers that give instructions to your tissue to regenerate and multiply. This has lead different fields of medicine to utilize PRP for wound healing to speed up recovery time and regrow healthier, stronger tissue. Now doctors have discovered new benefits for hair thickening and regrowth. With PRP for Hair, your growth factors and stem cells work together to reverse the miniaturization of the hair follicle and jumpstarting dormant hair back into the growth stage.
How does a provider harvest PRP?
Step 1: Utilizing a specialized blood collection tube, a practitioner draws a small amount of blood similar to what is required for a basic lab test.
Step 2: The tube is then placed into a centrifuge which spins the blood at a very high speed, causing the platelets to separate from the other components of the blood.
Step 3: Once the platelets are concentrated into the plasma they can be applied to the patient. Activation causes platelets to release essential growth factors and signaling proteins, which are responsible for the wound-healing process.
How do I know if I am a good candidate for PRP?
Talk to your physician for a proper diagnosis and to create a treatment plan. We recommend to rule out underlying medical conditions with your physician before selecting PRP as your treatment.
Is PRP safe?
Since the autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is produced from a patient’s own blood, there is virtually no risk of an allergic reaction or rejection.
How many treatments are required?
Treatment will vary based on your need. Initially, it is recommended to receive 3 treatments spaced 1 month apart. After the initial 3-session treatment, it is suggested to receive maintenance treatments 2-3 times per year.
How long does the PRP process take?
Collecting blood usually only takes less than 5 minutes, then centrifuged for about 5 minutes. Preparation of the PRP takes about 10 minutes. The PRP treatment itself is even faster. It often takes as little as 3-5 minutes. Expect your visit to be approximately 30 minutes.
Does the procedure hurt?
There may be some sensitivity. We use a vibrating tool, smooth needles, and cooling spray to increase comfort during injections.
Is there any recovery time?
There is no downtime or a long recovery process. You may take a warm shower the evening of the treatment. In addition, it is advised to avoid using any harsh dyes or chemicals on your hair for 48 hours. You may experience headaches due to pressure. Tylenol can be taken for relief. Do not use any anti-inflammatory pain relievers such as Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Aspirin.
Is this a cure for baldness?
PRP is not a cure for baldness (Androgenic Alopecia). The genetic medical problem will always remain. However, there is great evidence that regular treatments can significantly slow down the effects of Androgenic Alopecia and even works to increase hair density. Ask your provider for more details and if PRP is right for you.
Can PRP be done post-hair transplant?
Yes! PRP is thought to help support the hair follicles after hair transplant. It can also serve as a pre-hair transplant treatment to prepare the hair follicles for the transplant. We highly recommend discussing PRP with your hair transplant surgeon.
